There are almost 500 students studying at West Moreton Anglican College (WestMAC) and Kirsten Mullan, Head of Junior School knows them all by name and most of their parents. She knows them and they know her, one of only two remaining foundation staff members from 25 years ago she took on her current role seven years later and never looked back. “Kirsten is an amazingly caring person who is guided by her Christian values. As part of her role she is often the first port of call for staff, students and families who are overcoming personal challenges. Despite her hectic schedule she always seems to have time to listen and make each person feel like she is genuinely interested,” the nomination form notes.
Community is always at the forefront of her mind, like preparing a food bank for those in need in the community, sharing news with the community of parents, being a member of several professional learning communities and it is within the community that WestMAC has a strong reputation built through strong word of mouth and in no small part due to Kirsten Mullan. Students’ test results have remained strong and enrolment is almost at full capacity for the college with the nomination form noting, “I believe this is no small way thanks to the culture that Kirsten has fostered in the Junior School.” She has been one of the driving forces behind the new Online Learning Management System as well. The system shares information between staff and students, but also engages parents with information on upcoming news and events. Responsible for curriculum for Prep to Year 6 she continues to study the latest teaching approaches, share knowledge with staff and implement new pedagogical practices. Congratulations Kirsten on your nomination.
