Kyla Ziems’ innovative and dedicated approach to her lessons is inspiring colleagues and resulting in excellent student outcomes. The Canungra State School Year 2 teacher develops songs and characters to teach students text structure and literary features. Canungra State School Principal Kylie Todhunter says when Kyla is faced with a challenge, she meets it by undertaking extensive research. “Kyla undertakes research to meet the needs of her students by highly differentiating her instruction,” Kylie says.
“Kyla develops and delivers innovative and engaging curriculum. She achieves outstanding results with her students,” she says. “She shares her ideas with her colleagues and influences the practice of more experienced teachers.” Kyla is a strong contributor to her teaching team and her Professional Learning Committee. She has developed strong relationships with parents and the community, works with coaches and mentors, has joined professional learning networks and takes part in the Academies Book Club.
