Rebecca Goodes


Rebecca Goodes is the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Champion at Bucasia State School, co-planning with her fellow teachers the use of STEM modelling in classroom content and increasing staff capability. This has involved the adoption of software programs, science projects, digital tools, robotics and the creation of games. ​Students have participated in Lego competitions and Science Expos as well as school presentations for families and others.


​This included creating games using SCRATCH (visual language community with block like interface), Lego We Do Kits, Spheros (robotic toys controlled by digital apps) and completing a maze using coding. From 2017 to 2018, students in Year Six, A-B in Mathematics increased from 24 per cent to 53 per cent and students in Year Five A-B in Mathematics went from 47 per cent to 59 per cent. A teacher of 18 years, Rebecca is invited to attend other schools to help with their STEM journeys. Deputy Principal Rebekkah Pollard says there is, “Increased staff participation and student participation in the Information and Communication Technologies / Digital Technologies and STEM arena and creating meaning[ful] projects to support the curriculum.” Congratulations Rebecca on your nomination.
